From a player standpoint, the world of Daiqua could be described as "classic fantasy meets fantasy solarpunk". With a wide variety of lands and cultures inspired by Earth, Daiqua is designed to offer a relatively hopeful fantasy world with a lean more towards renaissance/industrial than medieval. Its population has only a handful of sentient races other than humans, most of which are meant to serve as enemies to be slain in one's progression. At present, only one continent is accessible - Edelia. While it is known that there is 'more' of the world - or at least, this is what history claims - Edelia has been surrounded by magical storms for the past two hundred years that prevent ships from traveling too deep in its waters. No one knows from where or exactly when it started, and many the bold that has gone out in search of a way of calming the winds - only to never return.
The continent is settled by three counties, and has four main cultures:◆ Chimlo, populated by the Chimlon. Inspired by the cultures of South America, specifically those centered about the Andes, these hardy people navigate through their rough terrain with relative ease. From a meta aspect, one might be assumed to be one culture or another, but it is generally accepted that this is for 'flavor' since it offers no stat adjustments. As one could expect, though, some Bloodlines are more common in one culture or another, but there is no restriction on such.
◆ Nabarut, populated by the Nabaruti. A hardy desert people inspired by Egypt and the Middle East, they find themselves constantly warring among themselves for resources - but are quick to band together against a greater threat.
◆ Zhaojiang, populated by the Zhao. They draw inspiration from east Asian cultures such as China and Korea. Enjoying a fertile land, they are perhaps the most technologically advanced with a focus in the magical arts and their applications.
◆ There are also the Kordallish, who come from an unknown land. Originally invader barbarians, they have, by now, mostly integrated themselves in to society. Without a homeland they find themselves semi-nomadic, but theirs is a strength to carry on even when the original path is lost.
Also from a meta aspect, each country is designed that for some portion of your leveling, you'll need to travel to a different land; you can't simply stay in one country all your run!
CHIMLO
The westernmost part of Edelia is comprised of hilly landscapes and a vast mountain range that nearly cuts off the land entirely. It is here that Chimlo holds its lands, and they have worked hard to find a way to thrive off its soil.
Its capital of Chakamiri is nestled deep within the mountains, next to a pond said to be sacred to the Forgotten Gods. This valley is rich in resources, protected on all sides by mountains, and also considered one of the most beautiful places on the continent itself. Follow the lake's run-off to the river and to the sea, and you come across the port of Pamero, which also serves as a starting city for new players.
The Chimlon are a patient people, willing to work long and hard to reap a great payoff. While generally peaceful, as well, they are quick to retort when provoked and to use overwhelming force in the process. As such, they have sparked a popular saying; "You may hit a Chimlon once. But only once."
Other major areas include:◆ ROLLING HILLS A relatively peaceful and benign area, the only real threats are the predators who encroach on the herd animals, unless you start going in to burrows and tunnels. Levels 1-15.
◆ TACCAMA SLOPES: With a variety of mountainlife accustomed to steep heights and sudden drop-offs, it's almost more difficult to travel here than gaining experience in itself. Levels 20-35.
◆ ENLA'S SUMMIT: One of the highest mountains, there's harpies a plenty in this area and even more plenty creatures that Just Plain Don't Like You. Remember to bundle up against the cold! Levels 30-45.
◆ THE MOUNTAINHEART: Descend in to caves that go deep within the land itself, and confront the dangerous creatures that call it 'home'. The only light given is the kind you bring, or what little is given off the lichen of its walls. Levels 44-50.
NABARUT
In the midst of the continent lies a great desert. Bordered by Chimlo's mountains on the west, and by steppe shared with Zhaojiang in the east, Nabarut is landlocked but for a small section of land in its southwesternmost region. This area is its most inhabited, as it also serves as one of the primary paths from Chimlo to Zhaojiang. Here is its capital, Abtem, along with its largest city - the port of Sebasi, which also serves as a starting area.
Further in, towns are generally built around oases or springs. The few settlements without an easy source of water are few and far in between, and generally have some other sort of valuable resource in order to justify the import of such a necessity.
The Nabaruti are perhaps one of the more aggressive cultures; with fertile land always in demand, there are often a number of skirmishes within their own cities and towns as the population fights over limited resources. Indeed, there are even occasional pushes east towards Zhaojiang. Chimlo, in general, is fairly ignored; their mountains that border Nabarut have proven time and time again to withstand any assault.
Other major areas include:◆ NATHI'S BEACH This 'beach' is actually a large coastal desert, and the further you move out from town, the more likely the native wildlife will take an interest in you - usually for the worst. Levels 1-15.
◆ VAGABOND'S OASIS: A city run by brigands, thieves, and other unsavory types. They prey on the weak, and are a constant thorn in Nabarut's side; feel free to slay as many as you want, nobody will miss them. Levels 10-25.
◆ SCABLANDS: If not for its poor-quality soil, this would likely be developed in to farmland; as it is, what vegetation is present is fed on ravenously by the wildlife. It is here, too, that the creatures known as gnolls make their home- hunting that wildlife and any other life within range. Levels 20-35.
◆ GODSFALL WASTELAND: The centermost portion of the desert, where the Gods themselves are said to have been defeated in a great battle against demons. Its sand and soil are scorched black, and cruel monsters stalk what remains. Levels 44-50.
ZHAOJIANG
Zhaojiang comprises the greater majority of the eastern and southern coasts. Rich in land and natural resources, they have taken advantage of such to thrive beyond all others, focusing their efforts in researching magic and how one to use it to improve the quality of life itself. As such, they have pioneered the concept of 'magi-tech'; technology fueled not by water or steam, but by magic itself. The capital city of Huijin is a stunning example of this, often taking visitors by surprise with its stunning appearance...to say nothing of its crowded size.
Those wishing for something a little quieter can visit the port city of Nagatama, nestled on the thinnest territory in the east. In addition to serving as a starting city, it also serves to watch for any encroaching by the Nabaruti - who have made no secret to desire its acquisition for themselves. Nonetheless, there is an uneasy peace, held no doubt by the Zhao's constant push in establishing defenses.
Curiosity and ingenuity is highly prized by the Zhao. They also believe that it's not what you know, it's how you use it; even the weakest point in a structure can be an integral part. They also boast - for better or for worse - the greatest number of explorers who have attempted to brave the storms surrounding the continent.
Other major areas include:◆ THE IVORY FOREST: Named for its birchlike trees with white bark, the forest is home to a number of creatures and critters that are just itching to nibble on you. Levels 1-15.
◆ KAEPO MARSH: You want frogpeople? We got 'em. You want foul-smelling sulfur springs? We got those, too. A nasty place, overall, but you do what you gotta do. Levels 10-25.
◆ THE RUINED CITY OF TANSU: A testament to magitech gone wrong, this city was destroyed in a huge explosion some fifty years ago - and its ghosts still haunt its walls. Levels 30-45.
◆ THE FROZEN PEAKS: A small mountain range in the northeast, they may not cover a lot of ground, but they're tall - and are home to a number of dangerous, ice-themed beasties. Levels 44-50.
KORDALLA
The Kordallish sing of a homeland known as Kordalla, 'just past' the great storm that surrounds Edelia. While no one has actually seen that homeland in two hundred years or so, they had to have come from somewhere - and the storm couldn't always have been in existence. Right?
They have integrated themselves in to society only so reluctantly; some fully embrace the cultures, while others take on a travelling, nomadic lifestyle in search of a place they can truly call 'home'. But either way, they're excellent at pushing through obstacles, one way or another, physically carrying themselves past others' limits to the point of occasionally being a hero in another culture's story.
Said only cultures generally accept the Kordallish by now, with whatever threat they pose more or less gone in the face of more recent, pressing matters. That said, there are some areas where they are still regarded with hostility and suspicion; generally, though, such is rather frowned on.
